Delhi

Delhi is a huge and sprawling metropolis that is the capital of the nation. It has been in existence for at least a thousand years and been known as Ferozabad, Tughlaqabad, and Mehrauli. Old Delhi is made of serpentine lanes over which hangs a heavy aroma of spices. To its south the British built New Delhi a modern metropolis with the stately Rashtrapati Bhavan, a palace where the President lives. The most famous attraction of the city is the Red Fort a massive citadel that as home to Mughal Emperors and where the Indian tricolor was unfurled in 1947 as the nation gained independence.

Agra

Agra is the next stop during Golden Triangle holiday packages in India. It is misunderstood by so many as the place where one visits to see the Taj Mahal alone. Of course visit to the marble mausoleum is mandatory but so is a visit to Agra Fort. Made of red sandstone the fort was built by Akbar and Shah Jahan. The other must-see sight is Fatehpur Sikri an entire city that was created by Akbar. Made of sandstone the deserted town has an air of melancholy about it. It is not known why Akbar abandoned it after living and ruling over India from here for 14 years. Once upon a time Selim Chisti the famed Sufi saint too lived here for few years.

Jaipur

The City Palace is the chief attraction of this desert town. Built-in 1732 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh it shows the love that Rajputs had for grand architecture.  The palace is built in a combination n of Hindu and Mughal design and has superb ornate carvings all along its walls. The complex houses several smaller palaces including the Chandra Mahal which is now a museum.

Located only 10 km from Jaipur is the vast Amber Fort. It is a fantastic location on top of a hillock and which one can ascend on the back of an elephant. It is a mesmerizing place that offers a birds-eye view of Jaipur.
